Our Roots Go Way Back To 1921
It all started with a sea captain looking for a way to prevent his ship’s metal deck from rusting. Working with a chemist, captain Robert Fergusson developed one of the world’s first rust-preventative paints and Rust-Oleum was born.
Embraced by the Artistic Community
Starting with just 24 paint colors, Rust-Oleum paint was not intended for artistic purposes. But regardless of intention, a community of artists claimed it as their own and helped build Rust-Oleum as one of the original artistic spray paints.
